if your looking for good service, warranty and quality go with Baker. Pricey, but hands down the best tranny out there.

i know theres baker 5 speeds on ebay from dennis kirk for 1100.00 six speeds as low as 1700.00.. if your looking for something close to ultima cost thats reliable.. rev-tech is the only choice.. chuck at digger engineering will give you the best prices on the r/t trannies..

I have used the revtchs to without problems. Also have been using the trickshifts lately. Bigger main shaft and heavier built from what i'm told. Also have never had an issue so as far as warrantys i don't have any first hand info. The trickshifts run just under 1300 for rsd 6spd.

What kind of power were you putting through the Midwest tranny causing it to break the shaft? I am building a new bike, and have not heard of this problem before, so I have concerns of this midwest 6 speed breaking on me too.

Thanks

P.S. We have used Revtechs in a couple builds w/ out issue, but behind stock EVO's.

yeah fill us in on the circumstances with the failure.
i have used several ultima 6 speeds on big motors with no problems.
except for last week just by accident noticed that the small clutch pushrod bearing was coming apart when i took the cover off.
i think(hope) i recovered all the needle bearings. $11 dollars for the part.

i'm running a S&S 107, luckily the main shaft didn't break as i was riding it but when i was removing the nut after it seemed to have a slight slipping when i got on it ,different than a clutch slip. anyway i've always heard good things about ultima, and i think the main shaft breaking was just a flook, (defect for sure!!) Just that midwest must get transmission once or twice a year as i have been waiting over 3.5 monthts.they say every time "2 weeks"" 2 weeks",got old real quick ,but not alot i can do. thanks for info on the trans. PS is trickshift a brand name??

damn puzzled.. i wish i'd have known you did the baker gig.. if not mistaken the rsd were even cheaper than the lsd..

i bought the 6 speed with a kicker from cuctom chrome .. but its not a rev-tech product.. its sold under the r/t name due to contract to cci .. its made by " the driveline company " , they also make a rsd , & the new 125 motor cci sells , as well as the exotica rocker box kits.. thus far what i see of its guts its way solid..

i hate to bust all the ultima guys bubbles but their trannies have had massive failures .. for a company that sell big in. motors it shouldnt matter what motor was in frt. of the tranny.. warranty returns on them have been extensive.. i did extensive research before buying this last tranny.. baker , jims, s&s , rev-tech , trick shift , are the best ones out there .. jims & s&s being the top 2 in my opinion.. jims is basically a beefed up baker in a delkron case stasmped with a jims logo.. down side is the actual gearing in all but s&s appears to be foriegn made.. these were my findings & i could get no one to verify otherwise.. the big name trannies evaded answer on where the gearing was made.. so make your own deductions there.. to me , its not surprising at all.. way to many suggested to stay away from the ultima trannies.. some guys may have had great luck with them.. none the less , the warnings had basis..
