This is real "old school" tooling... :)

Home made forge.

People been making forges for years, I saw one how-to that used a cast iron sink, and when was the last time you saw one of those?

This one uses a worn out disc brake from a car, some exhaust tube, and a $7 hair dryer.

You had the hammer and some thig to use as an anvil, you could make the chisel and the punch.

When I've done the job I made it for, I think I'm going to give forge welding a go...

DAMMIT MAN !!! very good .. we have a pipe at work we use as a heater when its cold out.. its in the fab shop.. the pipe is about 16 inches long with a plate welded on one end so it with stand vertically.. theres a 1 1/4 in. or so hole just above the plate in the pipe.. the pipe has about 3 inches of scrap metal , nuts, & bolts in it.. we light a cutting torch & put the tip into the hole, as all the scrap metal heats up, the heat radiates out warming the shop .. we have also used it as a mini forge too , by cutting openings to stick things into til they are cherry red to bend & shape .. we used ours cause it was handi.. your plan looks to work much better.. really cool flick ..

Electric blower with a damper, and use coal from my mother in law.

As opposed to coal from a mine????

What I made it for originally was heating up some 1/2" square to make a ring about 5" in diameter.

The stuff in the video was just investigating possibilities...

Believe it or not, she still heats the house with the stuff.
She is close to 80, lives it the hills of Kentucky.
Granted an OA set would be faster, but it is fun to do things "old fashion", and cheaper.

Good for her. You see people that just fade away because they convince themselves that they're finished because they've reached 70, or 60, or even 50, years old.

And yeah, my motivation was pretty much that a bag of coal is £7, filling Oxy-A bottles is £130...

Forge welding is not that hard to do.
A helper is almosta must.
Flux (borax) is needed as well.
Get your metal white hot, clean with a stainless brush.
Apply flux, put the 2 pieces together and beat the snot out of them.
Sparks should fly when you are hitting the weld.
